Self-Portraits
For me self-portraits are far less about portraiture (the making of likenesses)
than about exploring without constraints. With "self-portraits" the sitter is
not going to complain if the image is not complimentary, or that her nose is too
large, or that he really doesn't look that old. More importantly, the sitter is
available anytime, anywhere the artist wants to work. When I need to "just
work," I often turn to self-portraits.
